PFP lawyer accepts, then backs out from debate with Guanzon

Partido Federal ng Pilipinas' (PFP) general counsel George Briones accepted then backed out from Commission on Elections (Comelec) Commissioner Rowena Guanzon's challenge to engage in a television debate after he called out the latter's supposedly illegal act to disclose her disqualification vote against aspiring president Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.

Briones, lawyer of Marcos' PFP political party, said he is now declining "respectfully" Guazon's invitation to debate with her since the poll commissioner already disclosed that he is her brother in the Sigma Rho Fraternity.

"For I firmly believe in our Code of Action which is 'to give due respect if not love to a Sister Deltan,'" Briones said in a statement about three hours after Guanzon's dare.

Guanzon challenged Briones in a television debate after the PFP lawyer called for Guanzon's disbarment and forfeiture of retirement benefits when she allegedly prematurely disclosed her vote regarding Marcos Jr.'s disqualification petitions before the Comelec.

"I challenge George Briones of Partido Federal of BBM (Bongbong Marcos) to a debate on TV. If he thinks he is brighter than me he should agree. They are diverting the issue," Guanzon said, which Briones initially accepted.
