More polling precincts being eyed in May 2022 polls

There will be more polling precincts in the May 2022 polls.

Commission on Elections (Comelec) Spokesperson James Jimenez said they are looking to have 105,000 polling precincts in the upcoming polls which is higher than 2019 when the number was only at 80,000.

"Right now, we don't have the final number of schools to be tapped but our target is 105,000 polling precincts," he said during the Kapihan sa Manila Bay online forum Wednesday, Jan. 26.

"We've conducted site surveys already and that's about to wrap up. We are just taking care to really make sure that the places we choose are safe," added Jimenez.

"Before it's so easy to set up a polling place because you can use any classroom. Now, it's not like that anymore. Now, you need to choose a classroom that is big, well-ventilated, spacious," he said.

Jimenez said they expect to finish the site survey in February.
