Bongbong favors abortion for victims of rape, incest

Presidential aspirant Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. said Tuesday, Jan. 25 he is in favor of abortion for "severe cases," including rape and incest cases.

In a one-on-one presidential interview with Boy Abunda, Marcos Jr. said: "I think that if they can be shown that they were raped and it was not a consentious sex that got them pregnant, then they should have the choice to abort or not."

Other individuals who could be allowed to get an abortion are those who get pregnant by incest or those who are not "emotionally or mentally capable," the presidential aspirant added.

"Maybe those are the cases that we can say that abortion must be justified," he said.

Marcos Jr. also asserted that "when it comes to subject of abortion, it is the woman's decision because it is her body."

"So we do not go and get stuck in the moral issues of playing God et cetera when life begins," he said. "To avoid all of that we can make it very distinct and say rape victims, victims of incest, if the mother's life is in danger."

"I cannot argue theology. All I argue is what's statistics that you have given me—60,000 people are hospitalized because of botched abortion, because of how many women die," he added.

Marcos Jr. said he will support "if the Congress will pass a law" and if "that is the will of the people."
