2 fake dentists arrested in Iloilo

ILOILO CITY — Authorities arrested two persons who pretended to be dentists in the city and province of Iloilo.

The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) of the Philippine National Police (PNP) recently arrested Edrian Peñaflor of Iloilo City and Andrea Besquillo of Balasan town.

The CIDG arrested both 23-year-olds after they were reported by the Philippine Dental Association (PDA-Iloilo Chapter), which received complaints mostly from those who wanted to get braces and retainers.

An earlier check by PDA-Iloilo Chapter with the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) found the two were not on the list of licensed dentists in the country.

The CIDG had to conduct an entrapment operation to catch the two fake dentists by posing as potential patients.

Peñaflor had a fake clinic nearby his residence while Besquillo had a fake clinic in her own residence.

Based on the initial investigation, both Peñaflor and Besquillo were only doing minor dental work and had several pieces of equipment.

Meanwhile, both have been charged for violating Republic Act 9484 or The Philippine Dental Act of 2000.
