DOH reports 29K more COVID-19 cases

The Philippines on Sunday, Jan. 23, announced 29,828 more cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Majority of the fresh cases were still detected in the National Capital Region, Calabarzon, and Central Luzon, the Department of Health (DOH) said in its latest case update.

So far, the country has already confirmed 3,417,216 cases, of which, 273,580 are still active.

Of the currently ill patients, 8,371 are asymptomatic, 260,399 are mild, 3,006 are moderate, 1,496 are severe, while 308 are critical.

The number of recoveries also increased to 3,090,164 and the death toll to 53,472. This after the DOH reported 36,763 additional survivors and 67 new deaths on Sunday.

Two laboratories were unable to submit their data to the DOH.

The intensive care unit (ICU) bed utilization rate nationwide and in Metro Manila was at 51 percent and 48 percent, respectively, the DOH.

In terms of ward beds, the utilization rate nationwide stood at 53 percent while 52 percent in Metro Manila.

Fifty-two percent of isolation beds nationwide are currently occupied while 46 percent in Metro Manila.
