BI nabs American with 34 arrest warrants for child pornography

Bureau of Immigration (BI) agents have arrested an American fugitive with 34 arrest warrants issued in the United States for child pornography.

BI intelligence chief Fortunato Manahan, Jr. said 68-year-old Gregory Evans Nelson was arrested on Tuesday, Jan. 18, in Barangay Balulang, Cagayan de Oro City.

Manahan said a manhunt was launched by the BI’s regional intelligence operatives after receiving reports from US authorities that the fugitive was the subject of 34 arrest warrants on charges related to possession and distribution of child pornographic materials.

Records also showed that Nelson is no longer holding a valid passport, after it was revoked by the US government.

BI Commissioner Jaime Morente said the American will be immediately deported and banned from returning "as his presence here poses a serious threat to our children."

Nelson is temporarily detained at the BI’s detention facility in Davao City awaiting transfer to theBI’s Warden Facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig.
