Manila's active COVID-19 cases breach 4,000-mark

Manila has recorded more than 4,106 active COVID-19 cases after recording 889 new infections, the city government announced on Friday, Jan. 14.

Sampaloc district has the highest number of active cases with 732, followed by Tondo with 1, 521; Tondo 2 with 434; Sta. Cruz, 339; Malate, 323; Sta. Mesa, 315; San Andres, 308; Paco, 294; Sta. Ana, 272; Pandacan, 225; Ermita, 72; San Nicholas, 71; San Miguel, 65; Quiapo, 50; Binondo, 41; Port Area, 24; and Intramuros, 16.

In a separate Facebook post on Jan. 14, Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno Domagoso reiterated the importance of vaccines in combating COVID-19. He has extended the booster shot vaccination drive up to 24 hours.

“Bakuna lang po tayo ng bakuna dahil ang gusto naming maibigay sa inyo mga minamahal naming kababayan ay isang tunay na solusyon na may kaakibat na mabilis na aksyon ngayong pandemic (We just keep on deploying COVID-19 vaccines because what we want to give our dear countrymen is a real solution coupled with fast action in this pandemic),” Domagoso said.

“Vaccination should always be faster than infection. Tao muna bago ang lahat dahil bawat buhay mahalaga (People first before everything because every life matters). We will try to reach as many people as possible and as soon as possible,” he added.

As of Jan. 14, the city logged 98,889 confirmed COVID-19, 92,995 recoveries, and 1,792 deaths.
