In a press statement, DOST said RHUs in Tarragona, Manay, and San Isidro in Davao Oriental received one RxBox device, one central processing unit (CPU), one router, and computer peripherals from the Department of Health (DOH) and DOST.

“RxBox is a telemedicine device capable of capturing medical signals through built-in medical sensors, storing data in electronic medical records, and transmitting health information via the internet,” said DOST.

DOST added that it aims to reduce the overall cost of life-saving health care services in RHUs or local health centers in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDA) across the country.

Along with the distribution of RxBox on Dec. 22, 2021, a training was held by the DOST among four participants composed of three registered midwives and one information technology (IT) officer.

In 2021, DOST conducted seven training events and deployed a total of 24 RxBox units in different RHUs in the Davao Region.
