“Baby Shark Dance,” the children’s music video, has achieved a new milestone by reaching 10 billion views on YouTube on Jan. 13.
It is the first video in the world to hit 10 billion views on YouTube to make it the most viewed video in YouTube history, according to The Pinkfong Company.
“Baby Shark Dance” hit the new record in five years and six months since it was released on YouTube on June 18, 2016.
Since surpassing “Despacito” by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee in November 2020, “Baby Shark Dance” has reigned as the most viewed video on YouTube for 15 straight months. Now the video is 2.3 billion views ahead of “Despacito,” which has 7.7 billion views as of Jan. 13.
“We are delighted to announce that our beloved Baby Shark has recorded another remarkable milestone. It has been a truly meaningful journey to witness how Baby Shark has connected people around the world and we can’t wait to introduce Baby Shark’s further adventures that will bring unparalleled experiences to even more fans everywhere,” said Min-seok Kim, CEO of The Pinkfong Company.
Since its release on YouTube, “Baby Shark Dance” has generated a tremendous amount of engagements around the world. It took the world by storm with its video dance challenge #BabySharkChallenge.
The “Baby Shark Dance” song also placed on Billboard Hot 100 chart for 20 weeks and was certified as 11x Multi-Platinum for achieving 11 million units on Nov. 5, 2020 by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and 2x Platinum by BRIT Certified.
Baby Shark expanded its reach with its own TV animated series on Nickelodeon, global merchandise licensing program, live tours throughout the world, interactive games and non-fungible token (NFT).
“Baby Shark’s Big Show!”, the hit animated preschool series co-produced with Nickelodeon Animation Studio, successfully rolled out internationally in 2021 and has been approved for a second season. A feature film is in development.
In the US, “Baby Shark’s Big Show!” is a top 3 series on all TV with preschoolers for 2021, reaching over 26 million viewers ages 2+ across Nickelodeon and the Nick Jr. channel.
The sequel of “Pinkfong and Baby Shark’s Space Adventure”, the sing-along special that marked the fifth most-watched movie in Netflix’s Today’s Top 10 list in the US, is also in the works.
To celebrate the milestone, The Pinkfong Company will launch a year-long campaign, “Beyond Infinity,” which aims to build confidence in fans that anything is possible and achievable, just as Baby Shark has been able to expand its own universe beyond the internet.
The Pinkfong Company also set another record, receiving the Diamond Creator Award from YouTube as Pinkfong’s Spanish YouTube channel surpassed 10 million followers as of Jan. 10, 2022.
This marks Pinkfong’s third Diamond Creator Award from YouTube after receiving it for its English and Korean YouTube channels. In August 2021, the company received the Custom Creator Award from YouTube for surpassing 50 million subscribers on Pinkfong’s English YouTube channel.
With 90 million subscribers and 50 billion views across the world, Pinkfong’s YouTube channels have been one of the most influential channels for kids on the internet, offering more than 5,000 songs and stories in 20 languages.
