Dave Grohl and the rest of the Foo Fighters are now bonafide actors with the release of their upcoming horror-comedy movie titled “Studio 666.”

Grohl, guitarists Pat Smear, Chris Shiflett, bassist Nate Mendel, keyboardist Rami Jaffee and drummer Taylor Hawkins are all cast as themselves in “Studio 666.”

The story is about the Foo Fighters who, needing to deliver their tenth album for their record label, retreats into an Encino, California mansion “steeped in grisly rock and roll history” to write and produce the album. There, Grohl “grapples with supernatural forces that both threaten the completion of the album and lives of the band.”

On the trailer, seemingly not himself and struggling to write a new song to show the band, Grohl plays the opening strains to an already existing song and presents it as something new, to which Taylor Hawkins pointedly corrects him, that it is indeed “’Everlong’ and you wrote it about 20 years ago.” Things get weirder as Grohl, apparently the only one who sees spooky things around the house, starts to become possessed and proceeds to take out the members of the band one by one. In one scene, he shoves Chris Shiflett’s face on a barbecue grill after the latter criticizes his barbecuing skills, and later gets revenge on Hawkins as Grohl (apparently) decapitates him with a cymbal. After getting a good drum take off Taylor first, of course!

The film is directed by BJ McDonnell, written by Jeff Buhler and Rebecca Hughes based on a story by Grohl. The cast also includes Whitney Cummings, Jenny Ortega, Will Forte and Leslie Grossman.

“Studio 666” is a play off the band’s own home recording place named Studio 606 where several hit music documentaries from the band’s Roswell Films have been produced in the past.

The movie is set to hit theaters this February 2022.
