Over P1-M worth of 'shabu' seized from street sweeper in QC


Police seized a total of P1,020,000 worth of alleged shabu and arrested a street sweeper at a checkpoint at the corner of Calle Industria and Manggahan Street, in Bagumbayan, Quezon City early Wednesday morning, Jan 5.

Lt. Col. Christine Tabdi, Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Eastwood Station 12 (PS 12) commander, identified the suspect as Anthony Vivero, 38, a street sweeper from Addition Hills, Mandaluyong City.

The QCPD said that PS 12 officers halted the suspect who was riding a motorcycle for verification at the checkpoint on Wednesday at around 1 a.m. where it was revealed that his vehicle is unregistered and his driver's license is fake.

Upon further checking, the police confiscated 150 grams of the said "shabu" valued at P1,020,000 found inside Vivero's sling bag, a glass tube pipe with alleged marijuana, drug paraphernalia and a .9mm Norinco pistol with five ammunition.

His Yamaha Mio motorcycle will also be impounded.

The suspect will face charges for violation of Republic Act (RA) 9165, the "Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 and RA 10591, the "Comprehensive Law on Fire Arms and Ammunition."

An ordinance violation receipt (OVR) will also be issued to the suspect for driving without a license and unregistered motorcycle, the police said.
