Leyte fisherman survived 'Jolina' onslaught after tying motorbanca to fish marker

A local fisherman survived the harsh weather condition spawned by typhoon "Jolina" after he managed to tie his motorbanca to a fish marker in Leyte.

In an incident report, fisherman Enrique Alicame went out for fishing off the waters of Barangay Bunga in Baybay City on Monday, Sept. 6. He then encountered big waves and strong winds that caused his motorbanca to drift.

Fortunately, the 54-year-old Alicame managed to tie his motorbanca to a fish marker until the weather condition improved.

His spouse Perigrina Alicame reported the incident to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Substation Baybay on Tuesday, Sept. 7.

Personnel of the PCG response team and Coastal Fisheries and Resources Management Office (CFRMO) immediately conducted search and rescue operations.

The rescue team located Alicame on board his motorbanca after two hours of searching in the area.

“Alicame was turned over to his family. He was then advised not to venture into the sea during bad weather conditions for his safety.
