Taguig listed as 2nd LGU with highest number of daily COVID-19 cases in PH

Taguig City has been listed as among the cities and municipalities in the country with the highest number of new daily cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

According to OCTA Research’s Dr. Guido David, Taguig recorded 471 new COVID-19 cases on Sept. 22 based on data from the Department of Health (DOH).

Taguig was second in the list of LGUs with highest daily recorded COVID-19 cases, behind Quezon City which had 743 new cases.

Manila was in third spot with 386 cases; followed by Davao City, 333; Baguio City, 299; Antipolo City, 289; Paranaque, 231; Caloocan, 217; Pasig, 180; and Makati, 180.

Based on its own daily tally, the Taguig City government recorded 398 new cases on Sept. 20 to push the total active COVID-19 cases to 2,245, an increase from 1,988 active cases on Sept. 19 including 363 new cases.

As of Sept. 20, Taguig has 43,020 confirmed COVID-19 cases, 40,464 recoveries, and 311 deaths.

From Sept. 10 to 16, Taguig recorded 2,710 new COVID-19 cases or an average of 387 new cases per day, according to the city government’s weekly report.

The city government said Taguig has the lowest case fatality rate in Metro Manila with 31 per 100,000 population.

“What we saw in the last few days, in the last few weeks, our cases continued to be high not only in Metro Manila but also in Taguig. But we see that it is plateauing a little bit but the number is still high. In the last few weeks, we are reaching numbers that we have not reached before. Despite the high number of COVID cases in the City of Taguig and in the NCR, we remain relatively low compared to the NCR average,” said Taguig Mayor Lino Cayetano in the report.

According to Taguig's report, the city had active cases of 174 per 100,000 population compared to 278 in the NCR.
