Baguio City to observe 3,000 daily tourist cap

The Baguio City local government unit (LGU) said it will continue to limit tourist arrivals to a maximum of 3,000 per day to prevent incidents that may trigger another surge in the number of local coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases.

In a Facebook post of the Baguio City Public Information Office (PIO), Mayor Benjamin B. Magalong emphasized the need to "maintain the same control for the meantime until such time that there will be compelling reasons to increase the limit."

More tourists are expected to visit the so-called "summer capital" of the Philippines after the LGU decided to waive negative swab test results as an entry requirement for fully vaccinated travelers.

Magalong said that tourist arrivals in the city did not yet exceed the prescribed daily limit since June 1 as tourist arrivals during weekdays have only reached some 1,500 to 1,800.

According to Magalong, the imposition of the limit on daily tourist arrivals is part of their efforts to help in the gradual and safe revival of the city's tourism industry.

Baguio City remains under general community quarantine or GCQ until July 15.

Despite the easing of travel restrictions to those who have completed their COVID-19 jabs, the Baguio Tourism Office reiterated that all leisure travelers are still required to register online through visita.baguio.gov.ph and obtain the QR-coded Tourist Pass to allow entry.

For tourists who are yet to complete their doses, a negative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) or antigen test result will still be required.

There will also be a mandatory triage upon arrival for health and documents verification.
