ITCZ, easterlies to affect PH

The intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) will affect the southern portion of Mindanao while the easterlies will prevail over the rest of the country, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Wednesday, May 5.

PAGASA said the ITCZ, or the region where the trade winds from the northern and southern hemispheres converge, may bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms in Davao de Oro, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental, Davao Occidental, South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, and Sarangani.

The weather bureau warned the public against possible flash floods or landslides during moderate to at times heavy rains.

PAGASA said most of the country may still experience hot weather due to the prevalence of easterlies or warm and humid winds originating from the Pacific Ocean.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to the easterlies and localized thunderstorms.

The public is also advised to take precaution against possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.

Based on its extended weather outlook for key areas from May 6 to May 9, PAGASA said that maximum air temperatures may reach 34-35 degrees Celsius in Metro Manila, 35-36 degrees Celsius in Tuguegarao City, 25 -27degrees Celsius in Baguio City, 32 degrees Celsius in Tagaytay City, 32-33 degrees Celsius in Puerto Princesa City, 32-33 degrees Celsius in Metro Cebu, 30-31 degrees Celsius in Metro Davao, and 32-35 degrees Celsius in Zamboanga City.
