50 women in Pasig receive food packs from EPD

The Christmas spirit lives on even after Christmas as around 50 women residing in Acacia, Barangay Pinagbuhatan in Pasig City received food packs from members of the Eastern Police District-District Community Affairs and Development Division (EPD-DCADD), as part of the BARANGAYanihan program on Sunday, Dec. 26

The BARANGAYanihan program is an initiative by the Philippine National Police (PNP) that aims to foster police-community partnerships to serve the people’s needs. It includes activities like distributing food packs and conducting feeding programs for the most vulnerable sectors of the community.

“Ang diwa na ito ay araw-araw dapat nating isinasabuhay at isinasagawa sa ating puso at isip. Hindi natatapos ang diwa ng pasko (The spirit of Christmas is always present. We have to instil that spirit everyday in our hearts and minds),” PSStg. Cherry Ann Raymundo said.

The event was conducted by the EPD-DCADD led by PLt. Col. Reynan V. Patam, in collaboration with Remedios A. Bordeos, the president of Acacia’s homeowners association.

The event was supported by Brgy. Pinagbuhatan’s Barangay Captain Hon. Maricar A. Vivero, and PLt. Jun Erwin Gazmen, the officer-in-chief of the Pasig City Police Station (CPS) Sub-Station 5.

Each food pack contained around three kilos of rice, canned goods, packs of soy sauce and vinegar, packs of instant noodles, and a  bottle of dishwashing soap.

A short seminar was conducted by PLt. Col. Rodelisa P. San Buenaventura on women’s rights and about Republic Act (RA) 9262 or the Violence Against Women and Children Act of 2002, as part of the program’s advocacy to empower women.

The police also gave a short lecture on preventing crime and recruitment from terrorist groups, and reminders on the safety hazards of fireworks in the coming new year celebrations. (Khriscielle Yalao)
