BACOLOD CITY – Three children perished in a fire that razed 14 houses at Sitio Troso, Barangay Buluangan, San Carlos City, Negros Occidental on Tuesday, December 21.

Fire officer 2 Neil Bandillo, arson investigator of San Carlos City Fire Station, said the fatalities, whose names were withheld aged 3, 7, and 9.

Bandillo said the fire broke out from the room where the three children were sleeping around 8:15 p.m.

Bandillo said neighbors tried to rescue the children who were trapped inside the house, but they failed since the fire was already huge.

Bandillo said the children’s mother was not at home when the incident happened.

Bandillo said that two candles that were left unattended inside the children’s room initially caused the blaze. The said barangay was among the villages in the city that has no electricity yet due to the recent devastation caused by Super Typhoon Odette.

The fire left an estimated P100,000 worth of damage, destroying 12 houses, and damaging two others.
