CEBU CITY — Another major infrastructure may soon rise in Lapu-Lapu City.

Lapu-Lapu Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan is pushing for the construction of the Lapu-Lapu Expressway (LLEX) that will connect the city to South Road Properties in Cebu City.

A public hearing for the P24.81 billion project was conducted last Monday.

“This will be at no cost to the government because this is going to be a public-private partnership project,” said Chan.

Chan said the expressway will connect Barangay Babag to the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX). Construction of the CCLEX is expected to be finished this year and could be opened to the public in the first quarter of next year.

Once completed, traveling from the Mactan-Cebu International Airport to SRP will only take seven minutes, Chan said.

“This is going to be the first skyway in the whole Visayas and Mindanao,” Chan said.

The project will help the city generate income for the city while also addressing traffic congestion Barangays Babag and Basak.

Chan said he is hoping that the project will be supported by the Council.

“We know that most members of the Council are not my allies but I hope they will approve the project. I hope that the Council will make this as a Christmas gift to the Oponganons,” Chan said.
