Filipino squad Polaris Esports turned back Vietnam’s 496 Gaming, 2-0, in their Division II match in the SEA DPC Winter Tour on Monday, Dec 6.
The Filipinos rode the momentum of the huge Game 1 comeback to score a clean sweep and notch its second win of the season.
The Vietnamese squad had full control of the game right off the gates as they dominated the Filipinos on all fronts evident in its five-man wipe of Polaris at the 27-minute mark of the series opener.
To add to Polaris’ woes, Spawn 496 even managed to steal the Roshan and the Aegis after the Filipinos initiated the take.
Polaris however showed grit and heart as it kept its high ground defense intact against the pressure and multiple attempts to break in from Spawn 496.The Filipinos then stalled the game enough until it got opening to stage the comeback.
Polaris pulled off a clutch outplay on 496’s pickoff attempt which allowed John Anthony “Natsumi-” Vargas on the Monkey King to take down two heroes to the side of the Vietnamese.
That turned things around for Polaris as the subsequent team fights went to their favor, none bigger than the final clash that allowed the Filipinos to close out the 35-43 comeback after forcing the die backs on the four heroes of 496.
Natsumi led the way for the Filipinos with a 13-9-17 KDA while Mc Nicholson “LeLouch-” Villanueva contributed 11-8-15.
With all the momentum on this side, Polaris didn’t allow Spawn 496 to execute the same game plan it did in the opener. It was the Filipinos who dictated much of the second game as it gained full control of the map to take a lead that reached as high as 18k gold.
Natsumi and LeLouch did the the damage once more as they followed up their Game 1 efforts with solid 24-2-10 and 12-3-11 performances on the Ursa and the Kunkka respectively. Polaris closed out the series with a lopsided 43-20 Game 2 triumph.
With the win, Polaris now holds the top spot in the lower division with a 2-0 record while 496 remained winless through three games
