PCUP Chairperson and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Undersecretary Alvin S. Feliciano said that the organization’s participation in such activity aims to ensure the rights of urban poor residents in terms of land tenure security.

“Ang pakikibahaging ito ng Komisyon sa naturang aktibidad ay naglalayong matiyak ang karapatan ng mga maralitang tagalungsod ukol sa usapin ng paninirahan at security of land tenure (The participation of the Commission in such activity aims to ensure the rights of urban poor in matters of residence and security of land tenure),” said Feliciano.

The suggestion came after the rise of concerns regarding illegal residency in Candelaria, Quezon. Among these concerns were the several years without payment of some housing beneficiaries and the disorganized Home Owners Association (HOA) in their community. Despite this, occupants said that they are willing to pay their responsibility to secure their residence.

As a result, PCUP proposed to conduct an inventory of the current residents which will be compared to the original Social Housing Financial Corporation (SHFC) list. The organization also stressed the importance of LIAC development in order to prevent concerns like this in the future.

“Sa huli, inaasahan ang pagbubuo ng LIAC sa lugar alinsunod sa mungkahi ng PCUP (The establishment of LIAC in the area is expected in accordance with PCUP’s proposal),” it added. (Charie Mae F. Abarca)
