IMUS CITY, Cavite – A man posing as a police officer was arrested in Barangay Buhay na Tubig on Sunday (Dec. 5) after an indiscriminate firing incident.
According to the Imus City Police Station, the suspect, identified as Leo Mendoza, was caught after firing his firearm thrice and introducing himself as a policeman.
Authorities confiscated Mendoza's pistol, assorted Philippine National Police (PNP) uniforms, and government-issued identification cards with photos wearing general office attire (GOA) uniform.
"PNP's image has drooped exponentially over the years and one of the reasons why this happened is because there are people who tend to falsely profess to be policemen in order to carry out their mischief," Imus CPS Officer-in-Charge Lt. Col. Noel B. Calapatia said.
Mendoza faces charges for violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, usurpation of authority, illegal use of insignia, and alarm and scandal.
