Ebe Dancel’s most-fun-to-write single 'Huling Unang Sayaw' released today

Ebe Dancel

You know it’s a special song when a certified songwriting specialist explicitly distinguishes a piece of art for good reasons.

Ebe Dancel’s latest single “Huling Unang Sayaw” is a must-heard for fans and audiophiles if only for the fact that the singer-songwriter himself singles out the track from a pool of heartfelt gems.

The song is dropped in digital stores today Friday Dec. 3. It’s his third release this year from his home label Widescope Entertainment where he also works as an A&R manager.

“It took me a while to figure the rest of the song out, but of the three singles I’ve released, this one for me was the most fun to write and record,” emphasized the hitmaker who recently joined his labelmates in singing a new Christmas song, "Pagmamahal Ngayong Pasko," featuring Widescope artists.

The track is a radio-friendly mid-tempo recording produced by Ebe’s equally iconic manager Rico Blanco, an expected detail as it is exciting to remind people of.

The formidable executive and supervising producing combo of Vic De Vera and Neil Gregorio, as always, oversaw this latest cut from their prized artist and workmate, while veteran engineer Angee Rozul took over the mixing and mastering duties.

The track opens with a line that steers the whole thing to the finish line. Besides, it’s a cool piece of trivia that Ebe literally sprinted to get there.

He shared, “While running one morning, I thought it would be nice to start a song with 'Isang hakbang patungo sa ating walang hanggan.'”

'Huling Unang Sayaw'

The former frontman of the band Sugarfree and among the most established solo acts in the local music scene relied on the talents and chemistry of tried-and-tested session musicians to back him up in the instrumentation department. The rhythm section of drummer Luke Sigua and bassist Roger Alcantara proved a steady platform where guitarist John Apura and pianist Gino Cruz stuck their ground. Violinist Chino David provided extra spice to the already delectable arrangement he himself concocted at the Bavarian Studio. Yes, even the studio sounds delicious.

Part of Ebe’s high claim is the special treatment given to his vocal track, with the team of Robert Sena and King Puentespina serving as vocal recording engineers.

“Huling Unang Sayaw” comes as a follow-up to a couple of great recordings in their own right that introduced Ebe’s voice with added confidence and renewed hope. His Widescope debut “Manatili” was released last summer while “Tanging Kailangan” was uploaded to popular digital sites last August.

The new song enjoys Ebe’s strong suit as a lyricist with the chorus promising, “Hahagkan kita sa pangako na kailanman di ka na mag-iisa.”

Even in a love song, the words of a trusted tunesmith can be taken as a source of hope in these challenging times. “Wag nang mangamba, may kasama ka,” he reiterated in the song.

This new single “Huling Unang Sayaw” actually promises that there will be more from Ebe. His feet are just warming up as the title suggests. Expect lots of sweet dancing, especially that the night is young for a beloved songwriting singer who found a home where he can both sing and guide artists, the promising and the made, who all revere him.
