3 Africans in Negros Occ. test negative for COVID-19

BACOLOD CITY – The provincial government of Negros Occidental announced on Thursday afternoon that the three foreigners and one returning overseas Filipino (ROF) from South Africa who arrived in the province tested negative for COVID-19.

This was confirmed on Thursday by Provincial Administrator Atty. Rayfrando Diaz II, citing the results of the second RT-PCR tests of the four.

The three South African nationals arrived in the country on Nov. 25, and entered the province the following day, with negative RT-PCR test results, while the ROF also arrived in the province on Nov. 26.

South Africa was classified as a “red list” country, following the discovery of the new variant of COVID-19 called Omicron that originated in the said country on Nov. 24.

However, despite the four arrived in the province even before the classification was announced, they were still subjected to reswab.

It was earlier reported that the three foreigners are visiting consultants of a biopower firm located in northern part of the province.

Despite their recent negative swab test results, Diaz said the four will remain at their respective quarantine facilities.
