Vinyl re-issues seen to revive classic OPM

Vicor Records steep catalog sees light of day anew with fresh reissues.

2021 saw OPM afficionados reconnect with vinyl once more. Testament to the fact that after decades, the vinyl record is once again the number one physical format of choice for music listeners.

Locally, Vicor Records is leading the charge for vinyl revival when its steep listing of hits and legacy artists catalog was reissued anew on vinyl.

Once hard-to-find records such as “Segreto” by the late Ric Segreto, “VST & Company I,” Rico J. Puno’s “The Way We Were,” Rey Valera, Martin Nievera, Freddie Aguilar’s “Anak” and Sharon Cuneta’s “Mr DJ” albums have been made available once again on said format.

And that was just the first wave.

The label has since released sought-after titles such as “Batucada Sa Calesa” by Bong Penera, Basil Valdez’s “Ngayon At Kailanman,” “Kuh” by Kuh Ledesma, “Himig Natin” by Juan Dela Cruz Band and the self-titled debut of folk-rock heroes Asin.

Succeeding LP drops saw the records of Sampaguita, Cinderella, Hotdog,Yoyoy Villame, Mike Hanpol, Gary Valenciano’s “Next” and Regine Velasquez’s “Nineteen Ninety” revitalized on audiophile-grade vinyl.

A new bestseller from Vicor is the reissue of Side A’s influential “White Album.” A special white colored vinyl to match the pristine cover art (that came complete with the embossed band name) was a big hit for vinyl aficionados. Even Joey Generoso, formerly of Side A, took to social media to express his appreciation for the revitalized LP that marked his debut into the music scene.

For the 2021 holidays, Vicor has just made available a vintage holiday-themed vinyl in Rico J. Puno’s “Spirit Of Christmas” album. Said album sees the late Pinoy soul great singing Yule standards and injecting his inimitable style that made him a Pinoy pop legend.

As a holiday bonus, Vicor is offering special discounted bundles of its vinyl albums. With the original SRP at Php 1900, aficionados can get big savings with the 3-for-P5,000 and 5-for-P7,500 bundles. From “Segreto” to Basil Valdez’s “Ngayon At Kailanman,” to Bong Penera’s “Batucada sa Calesa” to “Pinoy Jazz” by Eddie Munji III,” to “Himig Natin” by Juan Dela Cruz to “Sampaguita,” fans may avail of savings as they collect and complete their favorite OPM titles.

More classic album titles are slated to arrive soon on Vicor’s roster of releases. Recently made available titles include the “Bagets” original soundtrack. All aforementioned titles and more are available on Lazada, Shoppee and through Vicor’s official Facebook page.
