Marikina City begins push for clean energy; installs solar panels

Marikina City started its push towards renewable energy after the city's Finance Building along Shoe Ave. in Barangay Sta. Elena was retrofitted with photovoltaic solar panels in partnership with Spectrum, Manila Electric Company's (Meralco) renewable energy subsidiary on Wednesday, Dec. 1.

As part of the “Solar Project Completion of City Government of Marikina City,” Mayor Marcy Teodoro led the symbolic installation of the first photovoltaic cells in the building to reduce the cost of energy and carbon footprint of Marikina city.

Teodoro also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for E-Certificate of Final Electrical Inspection (ECFEI) with Meralco-Marikina Business Center Head and Marikina City Engineer Kennedy Sueno, Meralco CEO Attorney Ray Espinosa, First Vice President Ferdinand Geluz, and Central Business Area Head Margarita David which confirms the completeness of an installed electronic wiring system.

“Sa panahong ito na higit tayong kailangan na maglingkod at maging ilaw sa buhay ng bawat isa (During this time when we need to serve as a light in other’s lives), may our shared resources, courage, and commitment be our people’s inspiration and encouragement,” said Teodoro.
