Manileño Spikers sweep Basilan Steel, earn semis berth in Champs League

VNS Manileño Spikers crushed the Basilan Steel Spikers, 25-17, 25-22, 25-23, Wednesday to clinch a semifinal berth in the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) Champions League for Men at the Aquamarine Recreational Center in Lipa City, Batangas.

John Benedict San Andrew and Rwenzmel Taguibolo combined for 23 points including 17 kills for the Manileño Spikers, who finished the three-team Pool A with a 1-1 record at second place.

The feat arranged them a meeting with Pool B top seed Team Dasma Monarchs in the knockout semis scheduled Friday.

VNS displayed its all-around plays, outhustling Basilan at the attack line, 40-33, and posting six blocks including three from Taguibolos.

Geuel Asia also steered the Manileño Spikers by providing 19 of the team’s excellent sets.

Basilan finished the tournament without a win in their two matches despite Razzel Palisoc, Joshua Barrica and Mohammad Sulayman teaming up for 27 points against VNS.
