PDEA destroys P53.4-M worth of illegal drugs in Western Visayas

BACOLOD CITY — About P53,444,251.75 worth of illegal drugs were incinerated by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)-Western Visayas at San Carlos Bio-Energy, Inc. (SCBI) in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental on Friday, Nov. 26.

These illegal drugs were those confiscated by PDEA agents in their anti-illegal drugs operations and used as evidence in court, which already promulgated decisions on the cases.

PDEA-Western Visayas spokesperson Shey Tanaleon, said 6,280.0099 grams of shabu worth P53,380,084.15, and 427.0784 grams of marijuana worth P64,167.06 were subjected to thermal destruction led by PDEA regional assistant director Donelyn Hemedez.

Tanaleon said PDEA-Western Visayas laboratory started retrieving the illegal drugs since July this year, with cases decided as early as 2012 and others as recent as 2020.

Tanaleon said it was the first thermal destruction of illegal drugs in the province, and the second and last in the region for this year, following the first thermal destruction in Jaro, Iloilo in March.

It was in August this year when PDEA visited the facility to ask approval from the management to use it as venue for the said activity.
