Senator Imee Marcos on Tuesday, Nov. 30 said mass vaccination alone is not enough for pandemic control if new variants like Delta and Omicron keep emerging.
Marcos, chairwoman of the Senate Economic Affairs committee, stressed that ‘’we need to get ahead of their spread through early detection and isolation, if we don’t want more blanket lockdowns and a further drag on our economy.
On the other hand,Senator Grace Poe, chairwoman of the Senate Public Services committee, said mass vaccination alone is not enough for pandemic control if new variants like Delta and Omicron keep emerging.
‘’We need to get ahead of their spread through early detection and isolation, if we don’t want more blanket lockdowns and a further drag on our economy,’’ she said.
Health Secretary said that the eventual presence of the so-called ‘’Omicron’’ variant in the Philippines is not predicated on the word ‘’if’’ but ‘’when.’’
Presidential aspirant Ferdinand ‘’Bongbong’’R. Marcos Jr. said that as a ‘’unified country, we will survive Omicron.’’
`‘’We can still prevent it. Border control must be strengthened with health protocols maintained and we must speed up mass vaccinations to achieve her immunity fast. The sooner, the better,’’ he added.
