Retired police general and senatorial aspirant Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar vowed to push for measure that will provide free medicines and medical services to the poor sector especially those in far-flung areas.
He made the commitment during his public consultation in General Santos City where he learned that the basic medical needs of the residents are not being met because of their lack of financial capability.
"We have a law that provides affordable medicine but I think this is not enough because there are still a lot of our kababayan who have no medical access. This is what I will fight for," said Eleazar.
Aside from free medical services and medicines, Eleazar will also seek the expansion of state insurer PhilHealth's primary care benefit package, which includes free check-ups and laboratory tests especially for the less fortunate.
He will also push for a higher percentage of the country's population which should have been registered with the PhilHealth.
In August, Health Secretary Francisco Duque said 87 percent of the country's population has been registered with the PhilHealth.
