2 PUJ drivers yield P13.7-M worth of shabu

CEBU CITY — Two men were known in their barangay as public utility jeepney (PUJ) drivers.

It took weeks of surveillance before police discovered what Vinch Neil Arnaiz and Jessie Caballero were more than just PUJ drivers.

Huge amount of suspect shabu were seized from Arnaiz and Caballero, who were arrested in a buy-bust operation past 11 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 28, on C. Padilla Street in Barangay Duljo-Fatima here.

The operation was conducted by operatives of the Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO).

Police Maj. Jonathan Bethooven Taneo, chief of CCPO's DEU, said 2.5 kilos of shabu with an estimated value of P13.7 million were seized from the two men.

Taneo said Arnaiz is one of the "high-value individuals" that the police have been closely monitoring.

Taneo added that Arnaiz's name came up when police were able to arrest several illegal drug peddlers in previous police operations.

The seized illegal drugs were turned over to the police crime laboratory for further examination.

Follow-up investigation will be conducted to determine where the two suspects got their supply of illegal drugs, said Taneo.
