A 33-year-old mother died after trying to rescue her 10-year-old drowning child in Buaya River, Salcedo town, Ilocos Sur on Wednesday afternoon, November 24.
Police investigation disclosed that victim Jonah Ruar went to the river together with her two children and nephews.
Salcedo Municipal Police Station chief Lt. Mark Bryan Corpuz said Ruar was able to pull her child at shore but was not able to save herself because of the 10-foot deep river.
“Parang may butas daw sa loob ng ilog. Hindi naman daw siya marunong lumangoy,” Corpuz said in an interview of GMA’s Regional TV Balitang Amianan.
Responders tried to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation but failed to revive Ruar.
