3.7-magnitude quake hits Romblon -- Phivolcs

(PHIVOLCS)

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has detected a magnitude 3.7 earthquake in Romblon province at around 2:25 p.m., Monday, Nov. 22.

The epicenter of the earthquake was traced 17 kilometers (km) southwest of Corcuera, Romblon, at a shallow depth of 14 km.

Phivolcs said it was felt as a "weak" tremor at Intensity III in the municipalities of Corcuera, Calatrava, and San Andres in the province of Romblon.

It describes the vibration of a weak tremor like the passing of a light truck and is felt by many people indoors, especially on upper floors or buildings.

Phivolcs' instruments also detected the earthquake at Intensity II in Roxas, Oriental Mindoro.

It said the earthquake was tectonic in origin, which means it was caused by the movement of an active fault near the area.

However, Phivolcs noted that damage to property or aftershocks due to this earthquake was not expected.
