TNT sweeps Pool A, faces Ginebra in PBA 3x3 quarters

Almond Vosotros came through in the clutch as TNT outlasted Platinum Karaoke, 21-20, in the first overtime game of the PBA 3x3 tournament’s first leg at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

Vosotros delivered the clincher when he scored a two-pointer off Karl Dehesa to complete the Tropang Giga’s four-game sweep of Pool A and the top seed in the quarterfinals to be played later in the day

Earlier, Vosotros sent the game to an extension when his two-point shot tied the score at 19-all in the final seconds of the 10-minute regulation play.

The team of Vosotros, Jeremiah Gray, Samboy de Leon and Lervin Flores overcame a tough challenge of the Platinum squad composed of 3x3 veterans Chris de Chavez, Dehesa, JR Alabanza and Yutien Andrada.

Platinum settled for second in Pool A at 3-1, but its performance could result in a possible showdown with TNT in the knockout rounds.

TNT goes into the quarters against Denice Villamor, Jollo Go, Hubert Cani and Mikey Cabahug of Barangay Ginebra San Miguel.

Ginebra clinched eighth and last quarters berth after a 21-16 win over NorthPort’s LA Revilla, Mike Calisaan, Mark Olayon and Jeepy Faundo in a knockout match between third placers of Pool B and C.

Other quarterfinal pairings pit San Miguel Beer against Platinum, Terrafirma opposite Purefoods and Meralco facing Cavitex.

Earlier results saw Meralco sweeping Pool B after Tonino Gonzaga, Alfred Batino, Joseph Sedurifa and Dexter Maiquez beat Ginebra, 21-12, while Terrafirma placed second in the same group as Matt Salem, Roider Cabrera, Dhon Reverente and Terrence Tumalip beat Sista’s Prince Rivero, Leo de Vera, RJ Argamino and Kenneth Mocon, 21-12.

Cavitex came back to stun NorthPort, 21-20, and seal second in Pool C after AC Soberano hit a corner jumper beyond the two-point arc.

Pioneer was finally cleared to play its only game of the opening leg, preventing San Miguel from sweeping Pool C with a 22-17 victory.

The Pro Tibay, composed of Carlo Escalambre, Robin Rono, Carlo de Chavez and Gian Abrigo, forfeited their first two games the other day after failing to secure a medical clearance.
