Perlas Spikers nail first win in Champions League

Tuguegarao-Perlas Spikers recovered from a second-set hiccup and edged California Precision Sports (CPS), 25-20, 25-27, 25-15, 25-17, Sunday in the Philippine National Volleyball Federation Champions League at the Aquamarine Recreational Center in Lipa City, Batangas.

It was Perlas Spikers’ first victory in two outings after bowing to Chery Tiggo in four sets in opening day Saturday.

CPS, for its part, fell to its second straight defeat after yielding to F2 Logistics also Saturday.

Nicole Tiamzon steered Tuguegarao with 18 points built on 14 spikes and two aces, while Michelle Morente also stepped up with 11 points including eight on attacks.

Casiey Dongallo allowed the Antipolo-based CPS to bounce back from a first-set defeat, but the Perlas Spikers were quick to adjust to dominate the next two frames.

“All out yung mindset namin. Every game namin, championship game,” Perlas Spikers coach Rei Diaz.

Tiamzon also finished with 12 digs while Fen Emnas delivered 21 of the team’s 29 excellent sets.

Heather Guino-o contributed eight points for the Perlas Spikers, who also torched the service area with eight aces. They also posted eight blocks on top of 43 kills.

While CPS gave up 41 points on errors, the Perlas Spikers were also erratic in their game by committing 35 errors.

“Marami pa kaming dapat ensayuhin pero sa ngayon, kung ano ang kaya naming kontrolin, yun ang gagawin namin,” Diaz said.
