An earthquake measuring 4.8-magnitude rocked Davao Oriental at around 6:42 a.m., Sunday, Nov. 21, said the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

The epicenter of the earthquake was traced 47 kilometers (km) southeast of Tarragona, Davao Oriental, at a shallow depth of 69 km.

Phivolcs said it was felt as a “weak” tremor at Intensity III in the municipality of Tarragona.

Meanwhile, it was slightly felt at Intensity II in Digos City, Davao del Sur, while it was scarcely perceptible at Intensity I in Governor Generoso, Davao Oriental.

Phivolcs said the earthquake was tectonic in origin, which means it was caused by the movement of an active fault near the area.

However, it noted that damage to property or aftershocks due to this earthquake was not expected.
