Christmas becomes a star-studded affair at Resorts World Manila as pop culture icons grace its mall-seum through the pop art of Filipino painter Norlie Meimban.
For his 20th exhibition, the University of the Philippines’ Fine Arts alum presents portraits of legends such as Marilyn Monroe, The Beatles, Audrey Hepburn, Elvis Presley, Andy Warhol, among others. The magic behind Norlie’s works is rooted in his animation background. The artist is known for his signature style of integrating animation drawing techniques into the canvas in a unique manner that imbibes his paintings with a vibrant and lively quality.
Currently, Norlie puts sustainability at the core of his artworks. In his creative process, he incorporates objects such as plastic bottles, beer in cans, vinyl, cassette tapes, VHS tapes, and compact discs in crafting his works. This artistic movement was hailed from him experiencing a week of flood in his hometown. Through his art, Norlie hopes to contribute to the garbage problem in the country and inspire future generations to focus on sustainable art.
This three-time winner of the Metrobank Foundation Art Competition has staged solo and group exhibitions in notable galleries in the Philippines and the USA, Singapore, Malaysia, and Hong Kong.
