JBC to hold online interview of 3 aspirants for SC justice post to be vacant Jan. 9, 2022

The Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) is set to conduct a public interview of three of the 10 aspirants to the Supreme Court (SC) associate justice post which will be vacated on Jan. 9, 2022 with the compulsory retirement of Associate Justice Rosmari D. Carandang.

Set for online interview on Dec. 6 are Commission on Audit Chairperson Michael G. Aguinaldo, Commissioner Antonio T. Kho Jr. of the Commission on Elections, and Court of Appeals (CA) Associate Justice Maria Filomena D. Singh.

The JBC said the previous interviews of the seven more aspirants – CA Associate Justices Apolinario D. Bruselas Jr. Ramon A. Cruz, and Ronaldo Roberto B. Martin; Sandiganbayan Presiding Justice Amparo M. Cabotaje Tang and Associate Justice Geraldine Faith A. Econg; Finance Undersecretary Antonette C. Tionko; and Deputy Court Administrator and now Officer-in-Charge of the Office of the Court Administrator Raul B. Villanueva – are still valid.

The JBC is the constitutional office that accepts, screens and nominates appointments to the judiciary, among other posts.

Meanwhile, the SC has opened the online applications to the post of court administrator which was vacated with the appointment of then Court Administrator Jose Midas P. Marquez as SC associate justice.

In an announcement, the SC said applicants must be at least 40 years old, a judge of a lower court or in law practice for 15 years or more.

Documents needed in the application are latest and duly accomplished personal data sheet, official transcript of records, certificate of relevant trainings, certificate of required Eligibility with rating; and performance rating for the last two rating periods, if applicable.
