Webinar on Antimicrobial Resistance set in observance of World Antimicrobial Awareness Week

The Manila Bulletin has partnered with Pfizer Philippines to raise awareness and understanding of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) through a webinar aptly titled “Let’s Duet Better” Preventing the Next Potential Health Pandemic: AMR. With support from Mercury Drug, Rose Pharmacy, Southstar Drug, Watsons Philippines, Drugstores Association of the Philippines and Sun Life Philippines, the webinar will be a gathering of experts on Infectious Diseases to discuss AMR and how a potential pandemic can be prevented.

Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR)—the phenomenon which causes the birth of superbugs that have the ability to mutate and become stronger variants of microbes -- poses a serious global health threat.1  These superbugs are able to resist existing medicines used to treat infections, making a simple infection more complicated to cure and usual medical procedures more dangerous.2

Among the speakers to discuss the important facets of the AMR health situation is Dr. Regina Berba, an Infectious Disease Specialist and author of 38 publications for both local and international journals.  She will further explain the causes, implications and effects of AMR to a person’s health.

As pharmacists also play a crucial role in the fight against AMR, Mr. Arshie Larga, RPh, a community pharmacist and popular TikToker, will share how he helps educate the public about proper medical consultation and securing RX prescription on non over-the-counter medicines.

Through the webinar, attendees will also learn more about AMR through a patient’s perspective. An MDR-TB (a drug-resistant tuberculosis) survivor will share her struggles while battling the disease.

Acknowledging that we can all do something about this global health threat that could affect anyone, Pfizer  will provide insights and strategies on how to further raise the awareness of health care workers as well as the public on AMR and what can be done to prevent its spread.

The webinar is happening on November 23, 2021 at 6:00pm. This is open to health care workers as well as the public.  To join, please register via https://pfizertv.ph/register-lunch.
