Stallion-Laguna salvaged third place in the Copa Paulino Alcantara with a 5-4 win over Dynamic Herb Cebu in a penalty shootout that came after regulation ended scoreless at the PFF National Training Centre in Carmona, Cavite.

Goalkeeper Kenneth John James made the only save of the shootout before Finn McDaniel barely converted the clinching goal as Stallion secured a podium finish at the conclusion of the two-week competition.

It was a good way to end the campaign for Stallion, which lost 2-1 to the Azkals Developmental Team in the semifinals despite scoring the opening goal in the second half.

Cebu finished fourth after making an impression with its physical play and uptempo style during the club’s three-game stint in the Copa.

Stallion beat Cebu for the second straight time, but had to go through a shootout in order to pull it off.

Both clubs each converted their first three attempts, until James saved the attempt of Cebu striker Roberto Corsame Jr.

Laguna’s Jo Warren Bedia and Cebu’s Joaco Canas converted for their sides before McDaniel atoned for his missed attempt in extra time of the semifinal.

McDaniel’s shot hit the crossbar but bounced past the goal line to hand Stallion the consolation prize.
