San Juan LGU green lights contact sports

The San Juan City local government issued on Thursday, Nov. 18, the guidelines that must be followed after allowing contact sports such as basketball to be conducted in the city amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora issued Executive Order. No. FMZ-097 on the protocols for holding organized and unorganized contact sports events:

1. Only fully vaccinated individuals aged 12 years old and above are allowed to join and watch matches on site;

2. Players are only allowed to remove their face masks while they are playing;

3. Audiences must wear their face masks at all times and follow the minimum public health standards;

4. Only 70 percent of outdoor venues capacity is allowed, and 50 percent capacity for indoor venues;

5. Organizers must check the vaccination cards of those entering the venue, place temperature checkpoints, and ensure that there will be contact tracing forms.

Zamora said that those conducting organized contact sports must obtain a permit from the Office of the mayor, while those organizing unorganized contact sports must get a permit from the barangay.

The mayor reminded the public that they should not be complacent despite the loosening of COVID-19 restrictions in Metro Manila due to the decline of cases, and the downgrading of its alert status to Alert Level 2.

The National Capital Region (NCR) was placed under Alert Level 2 on Nov. 5 which will last until Nov. 21.

Alert Level 2 means there are no age-based mobility restrictions in the National Capital Region.

It also allows an increased capacity for businesses and activities such as restaurant dine-in, beauty salons and the like, and religious activities, among others.
