Chiz Escudero urges DepEd to expand pilot face-to-face classes

Former Senator and incumbent Sorsogon Governor Francis “Chiz” Escudero said he hopes the Department of Education (DepEd) will expand the pilot implementation of limited face-to-face classes to include more schools located in areas free of COVID-19.

Escudero, at the same time, lauded the DepEd for including Buenavista Elementary School in Sorsogon City’s Bacon District, among the 100 elementary schools selected for the nationwide pilot run.

“Kami sa lalawigan ng Sorsogon ay nagpapasalamat sa DepEd pagkakasama ng isa nating paaralan para sa pilot run ng (We in Sorsogon are thankful to the DepEd for including one of our schools in the pilot run of) limited face-to-face learning,” Escudero said.

“I hope they could eventually expand the list and include more schools from Sorsogon,” he added.

Escudero said he has long appealed to the Inter-Agency Task Force and DepEd to expand its limited in-person classes in Sorsogon considering that 50 percent of their barangays have no cases of COVID-19.

“Pwedeng magklase (We can hold classes here) subject to rigid health protocols,” he pointed out.

According to Escudero, the Sorsogon Provincial Information Office (SPIO) reported that the resumption of face-to-face classes last Monday, Nov. 15, went smoothly.

They also said some 180 students from Grades one to six will go to school on a rotation basis.

Aside from the 100 public schools, there are 20 private schools that will participate in the pilot run beginning Nov. 22.
