In a statement, Roque said that the two are on good terms.

What I can tell you is that Rodrigo Roa Duterte and Mayor Inday Sara are on good terms. They will not face each other for any government position)," Roque said.

Roque formalized his senatorial bid after filing his certificate of candidacy (COC) on the deadline set by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Monday.

He substituted for a certain Paulo Mario Martelino under the People's Reform Party.

Hindi po kami maghihiwalay ng aking Presidente (When I filed my COC, not only did I support Mayor Inday Sara but I will also support President Rodrigo Roa Duterte in the position that he will run for. Me and and the President will not part ways)," he stated.
