Presidential aspirant Senator Emmanuel ‘’Manny’’ D. Pacquiao on Saturday, Nov. 13 welcomed the decision of Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte to finally file her candidacy for Vice-President and end speculations about her political plans in the May 2022 general elections.
Talking to the media at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Cebu City before attending the wedding of the son of Cebu City Congressman Rodrigo Abellanosa, Pacquiao said that Mayor Duterte could run for any elective position because, in the end, it would be the electorate who would make the final choice.
“Lahat may karapatan na tumakbo (Anybody has the right to run for public office). Lahat binibigyan ng karapatan para magpapil (Everybody has the right to choose). At the end of the day ang tao naman ang pipili kung sino ang ilalagay nila dyan (In the end, it is the people who make the choice),’’ Pacquiao said.
` Pacquiao said that he is ready to face anyone in the political arena and would not bother himself with the political plans and actions of the other candidates.
‘’Ang hiling ko lang naman sa taumbayan eh mag-isip silang mabuti (I pray that the electorate will be discerning). Pag-isipan nilang mabuti kasi parang pinaglalaruan na lang tayo…pinaglalaruan yung taumbayan (They should think twice because they are playing us),” he added.
He stressed that as far as he is concerned, there is no turning back on his bid for the presidency, and would vigorously pursue his campaign to share to the people his genuine desire to serve and fulfill his quest to get rid of corruption in all levels of governance.
Before going to the wedding where he was one of the primary sponsors along with Vice-President and another presidential aspirant Leni Robredo, Pacquiao also met with MP3 Movement, a broad coalition of volunteer leaders pushing for his presidency.
In his speech, Pacquiao reiterated his promise that he would launch an all-out war against corruption and would build a Mega Prison that would be solely intended for corrupt government officials.
He said that this facility would be equipped with CCTV cameras that are fed directly to Malacanang and a hospital to house detainees who suddenly get sick when they are on trial.
“Wala na silang lusot sa Mega Prison na ito dahil sisiguraduhin natin na wala silang signal sa telepono at may CCTV sa bawat sulok at namomonitor ito sa Malakanyang (In a Mega Prison, they don’t have the chance of escaping) Yung mga biglang nagkakasakit pag nagkakaroon ng kaso wala ring lusot dahil maglalagay na rin tayo ng ospitaln (The estqblishment of a hospital would deter plans of detainees to escape),” Pacquiao said in Visayan dialect.
“Yung mga pagbibigyan ng korte para ma-house arrest ay ilalagay namin natin sa mga kubol na itatayo rin natin sa loob ng Mega Prison (Those declared by the courts as under ‘house arrest’ would be placed at small huts that would be built also inside the Mega Prison),” Pacquaio added.
His meeting with the MP3 Movement was followed by a forum with young Cebu businessmen where Pacquiao revealed his plan to provide zero-interest loans for Micro- Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) so that they could immediately recover from their losses during the pandemic.
“Naging champion na ako sa maraming weight divisions sa boxing. Gusto ko naman maging champion sa public service.(I have been the champion of severa divisions. I also want to be the champion in public service), Pacquaio told the young business leaders.
