This was according to a survey done by the Social Weather Stations (SWS) from October 20 to 23 which showed Escudero getting the nod of 51 percent of the respondents who said they would vote for the former two-term senator in the 2022 May national elections.

Escudero was the No. 2 choice among 30 names listed by the public-opinion polling institution in the latest nationwide SWS survey commissioned by Stratbase ADR Institute for Strategic and International Studies (ADRi). Ahead of the Sorsogon governor was broadcaster Raffy Tulfo.

Based on the total registered voters used by the special nationwide survey, Escudero received almost 32 million in votes if the election was held during the said period. It also validated the former lawmaker’s solid position among the different organizations and firms conducting pre-election surveys.

During a previous survey, Escudero garnered 60 percent of the respondents in the 3rd Quarter PAHAYAG survey done by Publicus Asia. The said polling organization polled 1,500 respondents from approximately 200,000 registered voters in the country after the deadline for filing of certificates of candidacy (COC) on October 8.

Escudero, who served as senator from 2007-2019, is running in next year’s national elections under the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC).

The veteran lawmaker’s candidacy is supported by the presidential-vice presidential tandems of Sen. Panfilo “Ping” Lacson and Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto, Sen. Manny Pacquiao and BUHAY Party List Rep. Lito Atienza, and Vice President Leni Robredo and Sen. Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan. (Melvin Sarangay)
