Letran, Mapua clobber JRU; SSC-R, UPHSD score sweeps in Varsity Cup


A series of 2-0 sweeps marked Day 2 of the Collegiate Center for Esports’ Invitational Mobile Legends Varsity Cup on Thursday, Nov. 11

Colegio de San Juan de Letran and University of Perpetual Help System-DALTA both clobbered Jose Rizal University via 2-0 fashion while Mapua University and San Sebastian College-Recoletos did the same against their respective opponent in the second day of the eliminations.

The Perpetual Altas made quick work of the JRU Heavy Bombers, 2-0, behind Jasper Cuevas who put up solid numbers in Games 1 and 2. Cuevas shone on the jungle Hayabusa in the series opener with 10-2-8 KDA before following it up 10-1-8 score line in Game 2 in the first series of the day.

The Heavy Bombers had the chance to redeem themselves in the second series but they were dumped by the Letran Knights, 2-0. Shan Bautista and King Caralipio took turns in the two-game sweep with Bautista starring in Game 1 on his Benedetta with a 6-1-1 KDA while Caralipio unloading an impeccable 7-0-9 showing in Game 2 to finish off JRU.

Warren Bonifacio, meanwhile, set the tone for the Mapua Cardinal’s 2-0 rout of College of St. Benilde Blazers with an impressive 3-1-13 stat line on his Hayabusa in Game 1. Jomer Mercado then took over in Game 2 as his Angela gave the Cardinals the edge on every team fight to finish with an all-around game of 4-2-18 KDA.

Teyjay shone for San Sebastian in the final match of the day as the Stags dismantled Arellano University Chiefs with a 2-0 sweep. He was unstoppable in both games, unleashing 11-1-2 KDA on his Roger in Game 1 and 14-1-3 KDA on the Alice in Game 2.

Letran, which also won against San Beda University in Day 1 now lead the standings with 2-0 win-loss record while Mapua, San Sebastian and Perpetual notched its first wins in the tournament.

Benilde, Lyceum of the Philippines University, and Emilio Aguinaldo College also listed one victory apiece after winning in Day 1 of the tournament.

UPHSD will try to extend its winning run when it takes on Lyceum and Mapua in a back-to-back match in Matches 2 and 3 of Day 3. San Beda University, meanwhile, will also have two games, the first one against Emilio Aguinaldo College in Match 1 and Arellano University in Match 2.
