DOST-ITDI wins top prize in regional invention tilt


The Department of Science and Technology-Industrial Technology Development Institute’s (DOST-ITDI) Chemicals and Energy Division (CED) won in the 2021 Regional Invention Contest and Exhibits in the National Capital Region (RICE-NCR) UNLAD category.

The DOST-ITDI’s CED announced that it received the UNLAD award for its outstanding utility model.

“Chemicals and Energy Division (CED) utility model entry bagged the first prize for the 2021 Regional Invention Contest and Exhibits in the National Capital Region (RICE-NCR) UNLAD category,” read the DOST-ITDI’s Facebook post.

The Institute noted that RICE-NCR is a nationwide activity which recognizes Filipino inventions that show ingenuity and make substantial impact for the betterment of our society.

The winning entry is entitled,”Power Back-up System for Small and Large Equipment.” It was submitted by ITDI CED engineers—Apollo Victor O. Bawagan, Federico E. del Pozo Jr. and Divine Rhea J. Ceruma

“This technology addresses the limitations of commercially available UPS (uninterruptible power supply) such as adaptability to the load requirement, easy maintenance of parts, and tolerance to any source of energy including renewables,” the ITDI said.
