Cop, pal arrested for kidnapping in Manila


A policeman and a driver were arrested for allegedly kidnapping and detaining a helper in Paco, Manila on Friday, Nov. 5.

Police identified the suspects as Patrolman Wilfredo R. Mindanao, 42, a member of the Police Security and Protection Group (PSPG) detailed at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Intramuros, Manila; and Romeo D. Aday, 47, a driver, resident of Sta. Rosa, Laguna.

Prior to the arrest of the suspects, vendor Rissa D. Salva, 45, appeared at the Paz Police Community Precinct (PCP) under Ermita Police Station and reported the kidnapping of Jovito Obal Avejo, 54.

The kidnappers demanded P50,000 in exchange for Avejo’s liberty, according to the Manila Police District.

The police launched a rescue operation leading to the arrest of the two suspects who were found guarding the victim in the Trece De Agosto Bridge in Barangay 679, Paco.

The operatives recovered from the two suspects a plastic sachet containing suspected shabu, and three cellphones.

The suspects will be charged with kidnapping, violation of Section 11 Article 2 of Republic Act 9165 (The Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002), and usurpation of authority.
