Onic Philippines head coach Denver “Yebmaester” Miranda rued the missed opportunity of facing the top teams from other MPL regions as part of its preparation for the M3 World Championships slated next month.

Coach Yeb initially wanted to test his team’s mettle in MPLI, but the plan was quashed after receiving a 2-0 sweep from RRQ Hoshi in their second round matchup.

The team failed to get the chance of facing other MPL teams even in the first round after it was pitted against fellow Filipino team Omega Esports during the Captain’s Draft.

“Every tournament malaking bagay sya samin (for the preparation) and sayang natalo kami sa RRQ hindi namin natry makalaban ibang bansa sa MPLI,” Coach Yeb told Manila Bulletin after the game.

Onic PH punched a ticket to the M3 Worlds after finishing as runner-up to back-to-back MPL Philippines champions Blacklist International.

Aside from the two representatives from the Philippines, RRQ along with MPL Indonesia champions Onic Esports will also participate in the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang crowning tournament.

Other M3 qualified teams that are present in the MPL Invitational were MPL KH champions See You Soon, MPL Singapore’s EVOS SG and RSG SG and MPL Malaysia’s Team SMG and Todak.

Coach Yeb offered no excuses for the shock loss but he vowed that his team will try to bounce back from the set back.

“Sorry we lost. Bawi po kami,” Coach Yeb added.

With Onic’s defeat, only two PH teams remain in contention in the Invitationals with RSG Philippines set to face MPL ID’s Onic Esports while Blacklist lock horns with Bigetron Alpha in the quarterfinals. Four teams are still alive for Indonesia while one each left from Malaysia and Singapore.

Despite the numbers going to Indonesia’s favor, the Onic PH head tactician still believes that one of the PH teams will come out triumphant at the end of the tournament.

“Pinas parin magcha-champion. Go Blacklist and RSG PH.”
