'Pink revolution’ goes international as Robredo supporters swell in number

Vice President Leni Robredo’s supporters abroad are making sure that they, too, join the “pink revolution” as they clad themselves in pink shirts while waving pink flags and banners to express their support for the opposition standard-bearer.

Ever since Robredo announced that she’s joining the presidential race, a tidal wave of pink, her campaign color, has washed over social media. Pink motorcades and caravans are also being held in her name in many parts of the world—from Hong Kong to Austria, to New York and California.

On Sunday, Oct. 31, New York-based supporters will hold a pink caravan for Leni in Queens, New York from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. (Eastern time).

Robredo expressed her gratitude to her supporters abroad.

“Nagpapasalamat po ako sa inyong suporta, na kahit nasa malayo kayong lugar, hindi niyo po nakakalimutan iyong pag-aasikaso sa bayan natin, pagmamahal sa bayan natin. Kaya thank you very much po sa inyong lahat. Sana po lagi kayong ligtas at sana nasa mabuting kalagayan (I am thankful for your support, even though you’re far away, you don’t forget about our country, your love for our country. That’s why I say, thank you very much to you all. I hope you’re always safe and in good health),” Robredo said.

The Vice President also mentioned that her youngest daughter, Jillian, who is studying in New York, was invited to speak before supporters in a gathering at the famed Central Park.

Last week, Filipinos in California held a pink parade to express their support for the candidacies of Robredo and her running mate, Senator Kiko Pangilinan.

Filipinos in Hong Kong and Austria also gathered while holding pink banners and signs with Robredo’s name and image. Meanwhile, her supporters in the Netherlands even made a human formation spelling out her name.

Over in Hong Kong, "Kakampinks" also wore Team Leni Robredo shirts in their own display of support. Some of them rode bikes covered with Robredo stickers.

The opposition leader currently has Team Leni Robredo pages representing different parts of the world—Hong Kong, Macau, the United States (US), and United Arab Emirates (UAE), among others. Her supporters also created Facebook pages for international and global groups.

Pink has become the accidental campaign color of the Vice President after her supporters made the call a day before she announced her candidacy to wear a pink shirt and tie pink ribbons on their gates and cars.
