The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) has started evaluating the records of 343 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) for early release from the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City.

Senior Administrative Officer Esterlina Caraos of the BuCor’s Legal Office (LO) said on Wednesday, Oct. 27, the bureau has started providing free legal assistance to these inmates on the occasion of the 27th National Correctional Consciousness Week (NCCW).

“Taon-taon na tayo nagbibigay ng ganitong tulong para sa ating kapatid dito sa bilangguan (We provide this kind of assistance yearly to the inmates),” said Caraos during a live interview on BuCor’s Facebook page.

Those who sought free legal assistance included 150 PDLs at the Minimum Security Compound and 193 at the Medium Security Compound, Caraos said.

She explained that the legal assistance includes the evaluation of the good conduct time allowance (GCTA) credits each of the PDL has received and determine if he can be released early.

“Ina-adivise namin sila na magpakabait pa rin at i-continue ang nasimulan na nagawa na kabutihan (We advise them to be good and continue the good works they have started),” she said.

“Dahil kung nagbarumbado sila, definitely ika-cancel yun at yung na-commute na sentence nila nung una hindi na make-credit yun (Because if they become rowdy, the GCTA that they earned and their commuted sentence will be canceled),” she warned.
